How Many Sessions of Laser Tattoo Removal Do You Need?

Laser Tattoo Removal

Have you grown to dislike your tattoo over time? Laser tattoo removal is a service we offer here at Le Reve Skincare & Laser Center in Fort Worth, TX. Since tattoos are part of a person’s body, when the tattoo becomes a painful reminder or simply doesn’t look right to them anymore, it can be very frustrating. Removing an unwanted tattoo can help a person feel as though they’re turning over a new leaf.

How Many Sessions of Laser Tattoo Removal Do You Need?

Your Series

The amount of laser tattoo removal sessions each patient needs can vary. It could be as little as five treatments, or up to 15. It can depend on the size, pigmentation, location, and even the age of your tattoo, among other factors. We’ll be able to offer you a better idea of how many sessions you may need after we meet with you and evaluate the tattoo.

We like to space each treatment about two weeks apart. Since the laser will be breaking up the tattoo’s pigment, waiting a few weeks between treatments gives your body time to carry away and dispose of the pigment fragments. With each session, you should see your results continue to improve until your tattoo is completely gone.

Appointment Time

The length of your appointment may also vary based on your tattoo type. Many clients have a packed schedule and need to have an accurate estimate of how long their appointment will take so they can plan around it. Once we meet with you for your initial consultation, we will be happy to help you schedule your appointments and figure out how long they should take.

How Does Tattoo Size, Pigmentation, and Age Affect My Timeline?

Size

Larger tattoos simply mean there’s more pigmentation to break up, especially if the tattoo has thick lines. With small tattoos, patients tend to see results faster since the small lines and treatment area allow the laser to quickly and thoroughly target the whole tattoo.

Even so, laser removal is considered very effective for large and small tattoos, especially when high-quality laser systems are used. The laser system we use is both powerful and gentle on the skin. It should be able to provide results as quickly as possible, even if your tattoo is on the larger side.

Pigmentation

While a high-quality laser system can target both colorful and greyscale tattoos, clients with dark tattoos may enjoy slightly faster results due to the higher level of contrast between the ink and their skin.

Age

Older tattoos are often more faded and blurry when compared to new tattoos. That’s because damage from sunlight, friction, and even just the passing of time can break down a tattoo’s pigmentation. Laser removal is a way to help the body carry out this process more effectively.

If your tattoo is already somewhat faded, this can serve as a “head start” to the tattoo removal process, and you may not need as many treatment sessions as you would if the tattoo was new. However, you can still seek out treatment if your tattoo is new and in good condition. We are happy to evaluate your tattoo, whether you’ve had it for two years or 20.

What Is the Process Like?

Consultation

A consultation is the first step of the process. We will be able to evaluate your skin and the tattoo you want to remove. We will also talk through your expectations to make sure this laser treatment is the best option available for you. Before your consultation, though, it’s important to make absolutely sure that you want to remove your tattoo.

Most patients who look into tattoo removal already know they want their tattoo gone, but it’s still important to take your time before you make the decision. Since removing a tattoo is permanent, you’ll want to make sure you won’t miss it or regret it. That said, most patients who are truly ready to say goodbye to their tattoo are very relieved to get the process underway. If you know you’re ready, we’d be happy to get you started.

Treatment

We will use our laser system to target the ink in your tattoo. Our laser system can use multiple wavelengths at once, so it is able to harmlessly pass through your skin while it does its job. Absorbing the laser’s energy will fracture your tattoo’s pigment, breaking it up to smaller pieces that can be more effectively disposed of by your body.

Versatility

We are proud to offer a laser treatment that utilizes multiple wavelengths and pulse lengths. The reason this is important is the different pigments in a tattoo can respond differently to various pulses and wavelengths. Our powerful laser is able to treat various pigments quickly and effectively, which gives us additional versatility.

What Benefits Does Laser Tattoo Removal Offer?

Improved Safety

In most cases, laser removal is considered the safest way to get rid of unwanted ink. Many other removal methods require that the skin either be damaged through abrasion or surgery. Laser removal offers an alternative that allows your skin to remain intact, while still giving clients great results.

A Sense of Relief

The reasons for wanting to remove tattoos can vary as much as the reasons for getting a tattoo. Some clients who get a tattoo on a whim may love it and see it as a fun memory, while others will regret it almost immediately and dislike how it looks. Other clients may simply get tired of their tattoo over time, not like how it looks as it ages, or find it embarrassing or upsetting.

No matter the reason, having a permanent mark on your skin that you don’t like is never fun. Removing an unwanted tattoo can provide mental relief, and a sense of reclaiming your skin. If you’ve been afraid the tattoo could get in the way of your career, you won’t have to worry about covering it up anymore. If you’re just tired of seeing it, you can look forward to the day you don’t have to be reminded of it.

Better Pictures

Sometimes it’s hard to look back at a great picture and see your unwanted tattoo taking up part of the spotlight. By removing this tattoo you can look forward to memorializing the special moments in life without being reminded of a tattoo you don’t want. This could be especially appealing for patients who have an important event on the horizon.

If there’s something special coming up, like a wedding or big vacation, we would be happy to talk about your timeline with you. If the event is far enough in the future, you may have enough time to have your tattoo completely removed. Even if there’s only time to fit in one or two sessions, beginning the process and fading the tattoo out may make it easier to hide the tattoo during your event.

Boosted Confidence

An embarrassing tattoo, poorly-aged tattoo, or a tattoo of a previous romantic partner’s name may have a negative impact on a person’s confidence when they’re dating. Tattoos can also make some people more nervous when they’re looking to get a new job. While many companies have relaxed their policies on tattoos, others still have limitations when it comes to tattoo type and placement.

Laser tattoo removal may help boost your confidence and reduce your stress levels in these cases.

Mental Freedom

Many people get tattoos together with a significant other or a friend group. This can be an exciting way to memorialize your bond, but if the bond changes or breaks over time the tattoo may simply serve to remind the person of sad memories.

If the tattoo is in an easily visible area, these sad memories could force themselves to the front of your mind all throughout the day. Removing these tattoos can help clients feel like they can finally start fresh and move on, both mentally and physically.

Different Preferences

Some clients who want to remove a tattoo actually do so because they want to replace it with a different tattoo. Maybe one of your tattoos doesn’t match the others, or is a different quality than what you want moving forward. For those who love getting tattoos, an unwanted tattoo can be wasted space. Removing it can give you the ability to get a new tattoo that you’ll actually enjoy for the long run.
