Developing bulging, prominent veins in your legs can cause you to feel self-conscious when you wear a swimming suit, shorts, and other types of clothing that display these damaged blood vessels. Further, veins that stick out on legs can cause you to experience feelings of heaviness and other uncomfortable sensations. At Le Reve Skincare & Laser Center in Fort Worth, Texas, we can improve these issues with leg vein reduction treatments.
What Causes Your Veins to Stick Out in Your Legs?
Veins that stick out in your legs develop when these vessels have difficulty controlling the movement of your blood. Your veins take your blood cells away from your legs and other areas of your body and move these cells back toward your heart.
Controlling Your Blood Flow
Your veins must work against the force of gravity as they move your blood from the bottom of your legs to your heart. Your veins contain valves that help your blood continue to flow in the right direction. When these valves close, they will stop gravity from causing your blood cells to move toward the bottom of your legs.
Sometimes, your valves malfunction. When this occurs, your veins will struggle to keep your blood flowing toward your heart. Over time, some of your blood cells will begin to pool in your blood vessels. As these cells accumulate, your veins will start to bugle and stick out of your legs.
How Can I Remove My Damaged Veins?
Lasers can be used to remove damaged veins that stick out of your legs. During your leg vein reduction treatment, we will use our powerful Icon laser system to send light beams into these damaged veins.
A Customized Vein Treatment
We can use the settings on our Icon laser to modify the energy that we will transmit into your legs. In particular, we will consider your skin type and the condition of your damaged veins as we transmit the laser beams into your skin. This carefully administered laser energy will destroy your bulging veins without disrupting or altering the skin and surrounding tissues in your legs.
Fixing Your Bulging Veins
During the next several weeks, your body will eliminate some of the damaged veins in your legs. Removing your damaged veins will not harm the blood flow in your legs. As your damaged veins are removed, the blood in your legs will begin to move through your healthier veins.
What Types of Issues Can This Laser Treatment Address?
Varicose veins develop when improper blood flow causes your veins to stick out of your legs and other areas of your body. These varicose veins frequently take on an enlarged, gnarled appearance. Varicose veins often form in your legs and feet. If the larger veins in your chest, upper arms, or abdomen become damaged, you might also develop varicose veins in these locations.
Varicose veins can cause you to feel painful, frustrating symptoms. In particular, these damaged veins might cause you to experience itchy, heavy feelings. You might also notice bruises or swollen areas on your body.
Reticular veins are medium-sized blood vessels that have become damaged. These veins are most frequently seen in your ankles or inner thighs. They may also appear on the back of your thighs. Although these veins do not stick out of your legs, they can be seen through your skin. As a result, removing them is a good way to improve your appearance.
Like varicose veins, reticular veins can cause you to experience negative physical sensations. In particular, you might develop tender, itchy, or burning feelings.
Spider veins are smaller blood vessels that have become visible. Networks of branching spider veins may look similar to the patterns seen in a spider’s web. Like varicose veins, spider veins can develop when your veins cannot move your blood in the correct direction. Alternatively, burst blood vessels can cause you to develop spider veins on your face.
Spider veins generally will not cause you to feel burning or other itchy sensations. However, these veins will change the appearance of your skin. If this change bothers you, you should consider using laser treatments to reduce the visibility of your spider veins.
How Should I Prepare for My Laser Treatment?
To get ready for your laser session, you’ll need to follow a couple of simple rules. These pre-appointment instructions will be easy to fit into your usual routine.
You’ll need to avoid tanning, sunbathing, and performing other activities that expose your legs to excessive sunlight for the next two weeks. Whenever you are outside, you should wear strong sunscreen on your legs. Further, you should try to avoid going outside during the middle of the day.
Prepare Your Legs
On the day of your appointment, you should arrive at our office with clean, freshly-shaven legs. You should not put creams, lotions, or other skincare products on your legs.
Will My Vein Reduction Treatment Be Uncomfortable?
You shouldn’t feel frightened or nervous when you begin your initial laser treatment at Le Reve Skincare & Laser Center. Your appointment won’t take a very long time to complete, and our advanced laser technology will prevent you from feeling any discomfort while we treat your veins.
An Efficient Process
It usually takes us about half an hour to transmit the laser energy into the damaged veins on your legs. Since our Icon laser system is designed to provide you with a gentle experience, you probably won’t even need to use a local anesthetic during your treatment, unless you feel more comfortable with it. Talk to us about your concerns, and we’ll make sure you’re comfortable.
A Gentle Approach
The energy emitted by our laser will pass through the surface of your skin and enter your weakened blood vessels. As a result, we will not cut into your skin during your treatment. We also won’t place any tubes or medical devices in your legs. Avoiding these invasive measures will allow us to target your problematic veins without putting unnecessary stress on your body.
Do I Need to Follow Any Rules After I Get My Treatment?
Raise Your Feet
You should try to elevate your legs above your heart for the next two days. Sleeping in a recliner can be a good way to place your legs in the proper position during the nighttime. Alternatively, you should use a towel or a pillow to elevate your legs while you sleep.
For the next week, you should not engage in activities that will expose your skin to high temperatures. In particular, you should not take very hot showers or use steam rooms and saunas.
Stay Out of the Sun
In addition to avoiding excessive heat, you should not tan, sunbathe, or go out during intense periods of sunlight. When you do go outside, you’ll need to wear protective clothing and sunscreen with a high SPF.
Put on Stockings
Before you receive your laser session, we will give you a prescription for high-quality compression stockings. It’s a good idea to wear these stockings for the next three days. Although you can take your stockings off when you wash your legs, you should wear them at all other times, including when you go to bed at night.
How Quickly Will My Veins Improve?
It’s common for your feelings of heaviness, itching, and other unpleasant symptoms to immediately decrease after receiving this treatment. However, the appearance of your treated blood vessels is likely to take a longer time to improve.
Although your veins will have a unique response to this treatment, the damaged blood vessels in your treatment area should become less visible within three to six weeks. As your veins fade away, you may develop scabs in your treatment area.
How Many Vein Treatments Will I Need?
Although it might be possible to treat your veins during a single appointment, we will usually advise you to get multiple laser sessions. Once we take a look at your veins, we can give you more information about your leg vein reduction plan.
Your laser sessions will be fast and comfortable, and you don’t have to take a long break from your job after we treat your veins. As a result, you should have no issue fitting these appointments into your schedule.
Can I Receive This Leg Vein Reduction Treatment If I Have Health Issues?
This treatment doesn’t involve the use of incisions, cannulas, or other invasive techniques. As a result, this is a very accessible leg vein reduction option, and most health conditions will not prevent you from using this treatment. That said, you should not use this removal method if you have herpes or vitiligo, as these skin conditions can affect your body’s reaction to the heat emitted by the laser.
Taking blood-thinning medications and supplements may also preclude you from using this treatment. For instance, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like aspirin can cause your blood to thin. Supplements that contain fish oil, St. John’s Wort or garlic can also alter the behavior of your blood.
Can I Use This Treatment to Remove Damaged Veins That Developed During Pregnancy?
It’s very common to develop varicose veins in your legs during pregnancy. The weight that you gain during pregnancy can put extra pressure on your legs and damage the larger veins in this location. Further, your changing hormones can negatively impact the condition of your blood vessels.
Talk to Your Obstetrician
Varicose veins that you develop during pregnancy can be very unpleasant and uncomfortable. Further, you probably won’t like the way that these veins make your legs look. However, to protect your safety and the safety of your growing child, you cannot use this laser treatment when you are pregnant. You should talk to your obstetrician about how to address the negative symptoms associated with your weakened veins.
Talk to Us
Fortunately, the varicose veins that formed during your pregnancy may improve after you give birth. These veins may also improve when you lose weight and recover from your pregnancy. If your varicose veins do not go away during these time periods, you should consider coming in for a consultation. During this meeting, we can look at your veins and determine whether you would be a good candidate for laser treatments.
