Here at La Reve Skincare & Laser Center in Fort Worth, TX, one of our most popular treatments is Botox which works to combat wrinkles and fine lines on the upper portion of the face. It is a quick and virtually pain-free treatment that doesn’t involve any downtime. However, during the first 24 to 48 hours following treatment, there are a couple of things you should avoid.
Here, we’ll outline the directions you should follow after the treatment to ensure you get the best possible results.
What Do You Need to Avoid After Botox?
Don’t Take Part in Strenuous Exercise
A key rule following this treatment is to avoid vigorous activity. If you’re eager to workout on the same day as your appointment, be sure to do it before your session. This will ensure that you don’t interrupt the efficacy of the treatment and experience results that are anything less than perfect.
Why Should You Avoid It?
It is never recommended to exercise after these treatments.
Strenuous activity increases blood flow throughout the body, including at the injection site. Increased blood flow could cause diffusion of the ingredients before they get to work relaxing the muscles.
Furthermore, the various movements and changing of positions that occur during exercise can put pressure on the face. The combination of pressure and heightened blood flow at the treatment site could impact the results of the treatment.
What Should You Do Instead?
Be sure to wait at least 24 hours after your appointment before getting back to your usual exercise regime. Instead, you could do very mild activities such as walking to keep your body moving without impacting the results.
Do Not Expose Yourself to Heat
It’s important to avoid any environment that could lead to your body temperature increasing. Do not use hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms, or tanning beds. It is particularly important to avoid excessive heat around the face; even standing over a boiling pan of water should be avoided. Any type of environment or situation that exposes your face or body to extreme heat should be avoided.
Why Do You Need To Avoid It?
The risk of bruising following Botox is increased when the body or face gets too hot. In addition to avoiding hot tubs, saunas, and other similar places, do not take a hot bath or shower for at least 24 hours after having this treatment. It is better to take a lukewarm shower than a hot shower in order to avoid impacting the results.
What Should You Do Instead?
If chilly showers aren’t for you, shower immediately before your appointment so that you can avoid showering until a full 24-hour period has passed after the treatment. Do not cook anything that involves standing over a hot oven or stove, or exposure to any hot steam.
Do Not Lie Down
It’s important to remain upright as best as possible immediately following treatment. The head must be kept elevated in order to prevent the injectable from migrating from the injected area. Botox that has been injected into the muscles must stay put in order that it can deliver effective results.
Why Do You Need to Avoid It?
If you lay down after your appointment, the injected ingredients could move around and their effectiveness might be reduced. Furthermore, lying down within the first four hours after treatment could increase pressure on the injected areas.
What Should You Do Instead?
Be sure to schedule your appointment early enough in the day so that you don’t have to lay down within the first four hours after the appointment. This ensures you can remain upright for long enough to make sure the injectable stays where it is put.
You could plan activities around the appointment that will encourage you to stay upright, such as going out to lunch, returning to work, or going shopping. Most patients don’t have too much of a problem following this instruction; just be sure to remain standing or sitting up for at least four hours.
Do Not Undergo Facial Treatments
Be sure to avoid scheduling any facial treatments within two weeks of your appointment. In fact, avoid any other cosmetic treatments on the injected area for a fortnight. After this point, you can get back to your usual beauty regimen.
Avoid Alcohol and Caffeine
You should not drink alcohol within the first 24 hours after treatment. It’s also important to avoid too much caffeine both before and after your scheduled appointment. This is to ensure you get the best possible results.
Caffeine and alcohol both dilate blood vessels and this can cause the injectable to diffuse and become less effective. Make sure that you don’t schedule your appointment before events at which alcohol will be served. This way, you can rest assured that you’ll get fantastic results from the treatment without having to miss out on social events.
Avoid Touching Your Face
It’s always advised to avoid touching the face in order to prevent bacteria, debris, and excess oil from causing skin problems. However, when you have this treatment it is particularly important to avoid touching the face. This is to ensure the injection site remains sanitary and is not exposed to bacteria and dirt.
Do Not Sleep on Your Stomach
When you sleep on your stomach following this treatment, you put pressure on the injection sites. It is really important that you sleep on your back for the first night after your appointment, even if you don’t usually sleep on your back. Keep in mind that the results of the treatment are at stake, and take every possible measure to keep from sleeping on your front.
FAQs on Botox
When Will I See Results After Treatment?
Final results are usually seen within two weeks of the injections being administered. You won’t see the results as soon as you walk out of your appointment like with dermal filler treatments. It takes some time for Botox to get to work relaxing the muscles in order to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles, but once you begin to see the results you are sure to love them.
How Long Does Treatment Last?
The effects last for most people between three and six months. Each individual body is different when it comes to how long it takes to wear off, but there are steps to take which can help the results to last as long as possible.
By avoiding too much vigorous exercise, you can prevent the body from metabolizing the injectable too quickly. You can also try taking a daily zinc supplement. Research has found that this mineral appears to aid long-lasting results.
Can Multiple Areas Be Treated During One Session?
Yes, it is possible to treat various different areas all in a single appointment. Botox is most commonly used to treat lines on the forehead, crow’s feet around the eyes, and frown lines. However, we can also use it to sculpt the jawline and create a smoother appearance on the neck. It can also be used to resolve excessive sweating in the armpits. When injected into the underarms, it can reduce sweating for anywhere between a year and 18 months.
Botox and Filler Combination Treatments
This treatment can be used together with dermal filler treatments to provide the most effective anti-aging results. The Botox works to tackle unwanted expression lines, while the dermal filler restores volume and sculpts the face to give an overall more youthful appearance.
Is It Suitable For You?
You could be a great candidate for combination treatments if you’re unhappy with seeing the signs of aging in your appearance. One of our expert injectors can evaluate your suitability for these combination treatments at an initial consultation. Your health history will be reviewed to check the risk of allergic reactions to the injectables, and then we’ll create a treatment plan that is tailored to your desired results.
